The life and times of Sophia Cook and the Cookie's of Cook

Figuring it out

My recent poll in stories asked “is your current job what you set out to do”, 77% of people said they’d “found another route”. Personally I’ve had many roles from working in nightclubs, selling fabrics and wallpaper, managing buildings, and overseeing the construction of new schools as a project manager. There has been many routes taken.

The student loan I’ve finally paid off was taken to out to support me whilst studied for a degree in theatre design, a career I only worked professionally in for less than a year. Theatre work couldn’t support my dream of living in London at the time… went looking for roles that could.

For some the dream is earning lots of money, for other people following their passion and earning a decent wage is more complicated decision to balance.

Comment below and share your own thoughts and experiences. It would be great to hear whether the route you stayed on is your final destination of career. Or whether like me going back to how it all started is a dream in motion.
